How to get organized to be more productive

Table of contents:

Mozart was a genius, but incredibly disorganized. It seems that to be a genius you have to be a disaster, but no. You can go infinitely further if, in addition to being talented, you organize yourself.

Mozart also died very soon, he was a difficult person and too eccentric to have order. He wasted precious time rewriting the works he was losing. The world's brightest race cut short too early.

And you? Do you forget things? Do you have an acceptable place to work? Does your table look 'run down'? Do you stumble over everything on the ground? Do you stack everything as it comes? Do you lose your keys? Have you had more than words for your disorder? Do you feel suffocated?

Take this quiz to see if you are organized. Could you find all of this in the next ten minutes ?:

The umbrella, the second security password of your mobile phone, the backpack, the phone book, the deeds of your house, a green ink pen, a light bulb, the guarantee of your radio and the instructions of the microwave oven.

Do you need more than ten minutes? Well, it's time to get organized.

Leaving everything out there is a pleasure… momentary. It is how not to plan, it is more comfortable, but you leave the problem for later and then it is worse.

It is not that ordering eats up your free time, but sacrificing yourself for a moment to have a greater profit in the long term. It's better that way, believe me.

Everything at your fingertips on your table

You have to design your work site so that it is as comfortable as possible, all by hand and in a quiet environment. Buy all the office supplies you need without hesitation, even if you buy more. A trip back to the store will be more expensive.

When you are armed with everything, decide on a single site for each thing. The keys on that nightstand, the sheets and spare parts in the usual drawer, the pendant on that tray… yourself. But always ask yourself, should this be here?

It is important that what you use the most is close. The agenda that you consult so much at a turn of the arm, just like the pen, the phone, the stapler and the folder with documents. At most they should be one chair back, without getting up. That is what will trigger your concentration. Know that you won't have to move for anything. Have you thought about an L table? It can be your solution if you have several things at once. One to leave what you need and the other part cleared only with what you do at that moment.

At other times the problem may be the number of people who come to your table and distract you. A table away from the rest can double your concentration. That department where people come and go and voices run through it end to end is not the best way to complete an important job.

Why not try to agree with your boss one day a week from home to finish that project? I did it in his day arguing the benefits of being able to accelerate important projects in this way. And it worked.

In exile, that's where you will surrender.
