Tips for pursuing career success

The professional aspect found in our subconscious sometimes seems to dominate most of our life, making us ignore other important areas of our being. It is probable that all the efforts, ambitions and daily activities are channeled only towards the accomplishment of those actions that lead us to reach a profession. But, once that goal has been exceeded, we begin the circle again to meet more expectations in this regard and so we can continue indefinitely, without worrying about other equally important areas of our lives, which are relegated to simple dreams and that are postponed with any apology.

We console ourselves by telling ourselves that we will advance when the requirements of the profession calm down a bit, to resume other goals and priorities. However, over time we realize that these yearnings to acquire more knowledge never subside; that to the extent that certain professional goals are achieved, others appear, and that the only way we can work in other areas of life that we have forgotten is by making the firm decision to do so and implement the decision made.

I recall that in the late 1990s I came across an article discussing the results of a survey conducted with several hundred scientists from around the world. One of the questions raised there was that if they could live their life again, the aspect they would want to change would be the time of education for their children. Surprisingly, more than eighty percent of those interviewed agreed on this. At that point I made the decision that I would not allow this to happen to me.

I decided that all those dreams that I wanted to realize, and that those activities that I knew would bring happiness to my life, could not be postponed one more day. I decided that sharing with my loved ones, getting to know new countries and cultures, or writing books and positively impacting other people's lives, would not continue to be something that would happen at some point in the future, but had to happen in the present. I decided that the achievement of these goals should be experienced during each of the days of my life. I made the decision to assume, from that precise moment, my family, intellectual, spiritual and personal success without putting a few distant points in the distance to turn them into daily life.

Once the decision was made, I started working on the other facets of my life: I went back to the gym, I started writing, I decided to let my wife know how much I loved her, not only with words but also with actions and I discovered, to my amazement, that it was possible to achieve my professional goals without having to sacrifice the other aspects of my life.

Professional growth is only one of the aspects of our life. Although it is true that this last decade was marked by an excessive concern for professional goals, due in part to the fact that the great technological advances and the increase in business competitiveness worldwide, led many companies to drastically reduce their personnel, and They put people in a defensive attitude, it is also true that a professional much more aware of his other roles in the game of life has emerged from the ashes of this global change.

Today we have an important lesson left: Let us not allow the personal plan of success that we have outlined to be saturated with professional goals at the cost of other facets of our lives.

I recommend you to:

Set goals to develop your own professional education and refresher program, so that you can always be at the forefront of your profession.

Stay well informed if you want to be ahead of the competition because power is on the side of those who have knowledge and information.

Determine what are the real reasons why you have not managed to climb positions in your company and act to change the situation.

Remember that we can all change our professional field of action instead of complaining every day, on the way to work, about how much we hate what we do.
