Organizations every day consider strategies based on customer priority, there is more demand in the quality of services, there is more demand in the immediate response that must be given to the customer and above all there is a need for the storage of the Information from organizations is powerful, that is, they need databases that better perform information processing and are capable of responding immediately to requests that are required.
Due to the aforementioned, organizations have chosen a solution to improve the information management of databases, this being the appropriate way to promote their success, improve business performance, reduce costs and achieve changes.
Data warehouse came as a solution to organizations in the 90's, from then on it began to solve those problems that information systems faced, such as cost, data redundancy and information loss, changed the ways in that databases handled information in organizations, that is, it eliminated traditional databases to make way for the management of enormous amounts of information, the consultation processes, user access and the elimination of all that useless information, facilitating decision making in organizations.
William Inmon (1992) describes the data warehouse as "a collection of topic-oriented, integrated, non-volatile and time-varying data organized to support business needs." Inmon was considered the father of databases and was in fact the first engineer to use this term.
Another definition about DW is from Susan Osterfeldt (1993) “I consider DW as something that provides two real business benefits: Integration and Data Access. DW removes a lot of useless and unwanted data, as well as processing from the classic operational environment. ”
Regarding what these two authors define, a DW or data warehouse is a technological tool in which the data of an organization is stored, allowing access to its corporate information. DW is capable of improving the quality and attention given to the customer, supporting enormous amounts of data, integrating and cleaning the information, responding immediately to users and, above all, achieving a positive impact on business processes, the latter It means that if customers see the quality in which companies handle their data, they will be interested in them and if not, then companies will discard what is not working correctly and improve their processes.
It is clear that to compete in the market as an organization, it is necessary that the information contained is structured and adapted according to the needs of the users, as well as the data must be organized by topic to make it easier at the moment to access certain information, with DW the information is obtained at the required time.
Large companies store information of all kinds such as: sales records, transactions, employee assistance, customer complaints and much more, which is why it is required that all such information is stored safely, where there is no problem of data loss. Now the question is why is it important for an organization to have DW? Firstly, because every organization must fully manage its large volumes of information, avoiding data redundancy, but there are even more benefits of using DW and they are the following:
Cost reduction: the tasks where users can create their own ad hoc queries should be simplified, these queries are those where users are given the greatest possible freedom to make open queries without limitations, having the benefit of working in a single database and reduced time spent.
Improve the company's behavior model : DW will allow easy access to all the information of the organization, causing better communication with the company's work staff.
Promote change processes: it is not limited in terms of information, on the contrary, it will allow us to have a deeper knowledge of all the processes carried out in the organization, also if there is a failure in the processes, necessary measures are taken to correct it or your case delete it.
Data warehouse allows organizations to experience a new corporate environment in which they take advantage and extract the essence of their work to please customers and if customer satisfaction is achieved, the organization generates profits, which is why DW considers five well defined objectives to improve executive performance. The first objective is that the information must be accessible, this means that there is data availability at the required moment with a minimum response time.
The second objective is that the information presented by the organization must be consistent, it must be clean and complete information, of high quality and, above all, that it is available to all users; the third objective is that DW must be resistant to change, as an organization cannot be avoided, the need of customers and technological advances make these changes arise and DW must be willing to overcome them; the fourth objective is the protection of information, where great care must be taken with all confidential information that is handled in organizations; the fifth and final objective is decision making, with DW there is already confidence in your own decisions, these are already clearer and are made faster.
Having exposed the above, we have no doubts that the data warehouse is inevitable in organizations, since it achieves a close relationship with customers, and is also at the forefront of any changes that may arise.
Data Warehouse or DW is a powerful tool that undoubtedly brings benefits, giving the solution to access data at the right time and in the shortest time; The greatest fear that companies have is that their valuable information will be lost, with DW there is no fear that such problems will occur, on the contrary, it guarantees the integration of the data and also performs a complete analysis to discard all the information that no longer works generating better storage space.
With DW there is no data redundancy, there is also cost reduction because all the information or the processes that are going to be carried out are in a single database, thus the tasks are reduced for the users and they save time in the search. In addition, having DW organizations are at an advantage, because it presents quality of services, quality of information and quality is what customers are looking for today, therefore DW is the key to the success of organizations.
