Teaching of business administration. a personal experience

Anonim

Let me tell you about my teaching experience without wanting to be perfect because we all know that the perfect does not exist and that education is and will always be complex.

All of us who have studied Administration do not leave prepared for teaching. I work for the Public Administration in the logistics area and one day an English teacher friend told me that they needed an Administration professor in Latino, an institute located in the southern area of Lima. I have always wanted to teach and this was an opportunity not to be missed.

The director received me and told me that he was in need of a professor of Administration for the students of Computing and Informatics. A brief interview (there was chemistry between us), an agreement was reached and that same day it started, so I had to return to my house to review my notes, my books and remember my teachers' classes at the University, that is, I had to prepare my first class. When I returned, the principal received me again and took me to the classroom where my students were waiting for me. I'm not going to deny it, but I was a little nervous.

When we entered, the director introduced me to the students with laudable words towards me, that helped me. Only with them again did I introduce myself and tell them about the objectives of the course, its content, its importance of study, its relationship with Computation, etc. That day I will not forget, but I think I did not do so badly.

I put at your disposal the structure for a semester course (average of 18 to 20 weeks, divided into 3 stages) of Introduction to Administration:

1. Introduction to Administration: definition, importance, Administration as science and art, characteristics, evolution of administrative thought, schools of administrative thought, company, company classification (3 weeks).

2. Administration Process: Planning, Organization, Direction, Control. I am aware that this point is the most controversial (12 weeks, 3 classes each).

3. New Administration tools and techniques: Reengineering, Total Quality, ISO Standards, Strategic Administration (2 weeks).

Keep in mind that, with just 2 hours a week of class, you have to juggle time management, and you should also consider the time for qualified practices, exams and exhibitions.

It is important to communicate and empathize with the student, providing them with the concepts and tools necessary for the adoption of a managerial and leadership vision in this competitive world and instilling in them the values, values that are so necessary and that have come so far less in my country.. You also have to be counselors, because do not forget that you are working with young people who must be trained, especially by example, a teacher is not only the professional who enters the classroom to teach his class and nothing else, the teacher also He's a leader.

The classes discuss academically and discuss different business and administration cases. I always check my classes beforehand -the classes are on the computer, I print the class for the day and distribute them among the students- I always try to update myself, I read books, business magazines, I attend conferences, courses, I surf the Internet, in this Lastly, Gestiópolis helps me a lot.

Time has passed and now I also teach Accounting and Economics. Undoubtedly the experience helps a lot. I am no longer the one who started nervously giving his first class. There are several semesters that I teach Administration, I have confidence and do not mechanize, each class always try to make it different, dynamic and enjoyable and I always wonder if the students have understood.

For those who want to start teaching, I can only advise that being a teacher implies having a vocation (don't expect to be a millionaire), patience, imagination and having a sense of humor. Always do your classes in an expository way, avoiding heavy dictation and memorization and always prepare them in advance.
