Summary

Currently there are places where the internet at a current quality does not reach, it continues in the old connections through the modem of a telephone.

However, these types of problems have been solved by making point-to-point connections; However, there are problems that arise during the life of these connections.

Introduction

In this work, the most common errors that affect the links and the internet signal will be interrupted, and how to identify these possible failures, both hardware and software.

The structure is made up of an Access Point Rocket M5 that is attached to an Airmax Parabolic Antenna, to expand the signal, both in the receiver and the transmitter.

The station is connected to the modem that outputs through an external UTP cable, and the receiver is connected in the same way, but it goes down to a switch.

Problematic

Detect the causes of disconnection and data loss in the connection of Ignacio Zaragoza, Q. Roo.

objective

Detect the most common errors that affect links and interrupt internet service.

Hypothesis

One of the immediate solutions that usually correct this problem is the restart of the antennas. There are two ways to reset: entering the antenna configuration platform and manually directly from the Access Point through the POE adapter, which normally has a reset button.

Theoretical framework

Access Point. It is a device used in wireless local area networks (WLAN - Wireless Local Area Network), a wireless local network is one that has a relatively close interconnection of computers, without the need for cables, these networks operate on the basis of specific radio. (IDLservicios.com Internacional, 2013)

Switch. Smart device used in local area networks (LAN - Local Area Network), a local network is one that has a relatively close interconnection of computers using cables. The primary function of the Switch is to link multiple networks together. (IDLservicios.com Internacional, 2013)

The problems that are in microwave connections can be various, can be both hardware, software or human; ranging from bad orientation, physical failure of the equipment (Access Point), some detail in the equipment configuration, or even a simple update of the equipment software.

According to the observations of the behavior of the access points and the tests carried out for this problem, the following has been verified:

  • Failure in the wiring or breakage of the plug Poor direction of the antenna Failure of the Access Point due to voltage variations or other cause Failure of the switch Failure of the antenna platform (software) or bad configuration Failure of the modem sending the signal.

To resolve this problem, the UTP cable was punched out again, even the entire cable was changed. Likewise, the software of the equipment was updated in order to reduce possible failures.

The monitoring of the connections has been carried out to be able to determine the channel change, if necessary; This is possible thanks to the Airview tool that contains the antenna. Lack of access to the antenna platform may indicate the equipment failure itself.

Verify the correct operation of the switch, and our current voltages, since these variations can cause equipment failure, therefore the regulators must be checked for proper operation.

Conclusions

The tests and monitoring carried out gave us a temporary solution when restarting the equipment; thanks to the backups of the equipment (antennas and po adapters) the true fault was found.

The switch is changed and the signal is currently stable and in good working order. It is not superfluous to emphasize the importance of having backups of our equipment, both hardware as well as the backup of the configurations, that will facilitate the work and reduce the interconnection time.
