Outsourcing: a managerial option

Anonim

It is common knowledge that we currently live in a changing and innovative world, where companies that are not prepared to adapt to changes will hardly be able to survive.

It is necessary then, that companies can respond quickly to changes, with new ways of managing their activities with the purpose of adapting to technological advance and being able to compete in a globalized market.

In recent years, more and more companies have been using a management tool that allows them to reduce costs and redirect their resources, thus helping to achieve satisfactory levels of productivity, quality and service, the so-called "Outsourcing" or Delegated Administration.

According to Brian Rothery & Ian Robertson, Outsourcing is "the subcontracting of services and products in such an alliance, with the chosen suppliers, that these practically become an extension of the organization's business", that is, transferring tasks that a company it did with its own personnel to third parties. The idea of a company that uses outsourcing is that the organization that is hired for these activities is contractually responsible for providing the service at a cost equal to or less than that which it would have acting directly.

Let's see two criteria to use Outsourcing:

1. We could Outsourcing those tasks secondary to the success of our business; We would delegate the administration to any task that distracts us from the core activities of our company, that is, we avoid being distracted by everything that is not critical to the success of our organization.

2. We could delegate the administration of all those tasks that we cannot do with maximum excellence, that is to say, everything that is not the best in the market, I contract.

Let's analyze the activities through which we add value to our product or service and ask ourselves in which of these activities we are or can we be the best with our own internal capacities? In all those that we are not the best, we will then have to analyze whether we can economically become it or otherwise, we have to outsource it.

Finally, we must point out that the key element for outsourcing to be successful is the appropriateness of the contract with the supplier company. It is important to think of Outsourcing as an alliance, to the extreme of seeing the supplier as an associate and not as a simple traditional supplier. Hence the importance of properly choosing our provider.
