Thoughts on Leadership and Professional Ethics

Anonim

In 2004 I served as general manager of a radio station in the Tennessee region, USA; and it had a program from Monday to Friday from 6 to 10 in the morning and had two of the best announcers as hosts of the programming.

On one occasion I had the need to turn to one of them to help me fill a space that would be free on Saturdays, but disappointment invaded my mind and heart when this announcer who I considered to be one of the best told me that that was not his responsibility and that he could not help me despite the fact that I offered him greater benefits, and that it would not be for long, since I requested his help while he found someone suitable to cover the programming.

In that same year I was the Executive Director of a Rehabilitation Center and I needed the coverage of a person to direct the staff for a week and I resorted to people -key according to my own judgment- but again I had the disappointment of not finding someone collaborate with me in this mission.

It was when I woke up from my dream and realized that the whole world is suffering from a growing deficiency of leaders with professional ethics who help create healthy environments in all areas of life, the world is in full need of people who truly are forged as leaders with ethics to act in politics, in religion, in different jobs, teachers are needed who act as leaders with ethics, the world is in need of leadership in each parent that makes up society, society needs children who are leaders with professional ethics and behave mature enough to act with certain supreme values that make up integrity, responsibility, honesty true commitment, and the determination to take action on the things that really matter.

In my journey that I do annually giving seminars to companies, churches, chambers of commerce, and also institutions that bring together people and I speak about leadership, financial literacy, with professional ethics I realize that the world is truly in a stage lacking these basic knowledge and they are the primary cause because the world is in the middle of a "crisis" that far from seeing the consequences in financial behavior, one should see the consequences in human behavior.

When I meditate on the subject of leadership and professional ethics, I realize that there is no area in human life where it is not necessary to apply principles to create effective leadership.

In our immature society, we mistakenly brand people who are far removed from true leadership as leaders, and unfortunately such actions make our environment so complex and mediocre.

There are many definitions for the words "leader and leadership" in this competitive world in which everyone wants to occupy the first place in any activity - the politician wants to win more affiliates to his political party -, - the religious leader wants to attract more members to his church-, the head of a gang wants to gain more followers in his group-, and by the simple fact of being in front of a crowd, he already names or names a "leader" without taking into account other elements such as ethics that should be demonstrated truthfully to recognize that person as a leader.

I like to define a leader like this: “To be a leader is to stop thinking about yourself; to be a leader is to think of others, because when we think of others we are apt to teach by example ”.

When we speak of someone as a leader, our mind processes an image of a person endowed with great intelligence and reasoning power; we imagine such a person as someone who knows how to make decisions, and someone full of wisdom. But the reality is that we are far from living that scenario in our society since we are plagued by unscrupulous men, without moral values, without ethics, men full of greed, greed, selfishness, and unfortunately they are the ones who run the communities, the governments, the churches, but they are leading societies to live in the midst of panic, terror, mental misery, and many other attributes that only produce social chaos.

You need to understand that you don't need to be in a position of power, or control, to exercise a level of ethical leadership throughout the environment.

The father of a family can and should become a leader of his children by teaching by example. The advice by itself does not produce any positive result unless it is accompanied by ethics, and as such; example.

It doesn't matter that the world is rolling toward destruction; The father of the family must make the determination to lead his family on the correct path that consists of teaching and applying supreme values that produce happiness for the human being.

The policeman can exercise his leadership by applying supreme values that allow him to fulfill his daily duties with excellence.

The teacher does not have to wait for good things to happen in the lives of his superiors to begin to exercise his duty to teach and educate responsibly, with passion and tenacity.

The public servant can be a great leader exercising his daily work of serving his fellowmen in an excellent way.

The waiter, the cook, of a restaurant can exercise their leadership, the concierge, the dispatcher can all be leaders, each activating their own initiative to perform their tasks with excellence.

We must all begin to exercise our leadership by applying punctuality in our appointments, meetings, or commitments with others.

We should not be carriers of bad news to others many times inventing or exaggerating in our comments.

Because in the end; our leadership influences in a positive way not only our lives but also that of others.
