One of the most innovative, creative and exciting professional sectors is the area of graphic design and web design. Although they are often talked about as if they were a single discipline, they are not. Graphic design and web design are different things, although it is difficult to imagine the existence of web design without graphic design.
Both graphic design and web design have their roots in the sphere of the arts, and are closely linked to communication. In the case of graphic design, its final mission is to convey a message in the most direct and efficient way possible, using the combination of different elements (figures, illustrations, fonts, colors…). All this is essential in the design of web pages, which must also be attractive to the user in order to fulfill their final mission: communicate.
In both cases, both graphic design and web design constitute creative disciplines strongly linked to the development and evolution of new technologies and the appearance of new tools that open up the range of possibilities even more. In addition, with the proliferation of mobile devices, new spaces and formulas arise where that creativity can be captured.
Its artistic and communicative aspect, together with its connection with technology, means that graphic design and web design, like many other disciplines and like society itself, are subject to changes, evolutions and trends that vary over time.
In 2017, trends that had already appeared a couple of years ago and that, during the past year, had gained prominence, will be recovered. In the case of web design, a large part of these trends also respond to the need for less mobile data consumption and higher loading speed, while the content presents an increasing visual quality and, therefore, also more heavy.
In this sense, it is impossible not to mention the Material Design of which Google has been and is the maximum responsible and champion, a design in which edges, shadows, surfaces, colors and depth take on a capital importance. In addition, the brightness, the textures, the gradients will continue in that evolution in which they merge with the Flat Design. Thus, Organic Design and that "flat design", in principle opposite, have reached a meeting point throughout 2016 that has given rise to something totally original, novel, which will continue to be perfected in 2017.
Along with this, all kinds of three-dimensional elements and shapes will also continue to gain prominence and, of course, the depth coupled with the animations and that Parallax effect that provides rhythm while enhancing the content.
The slight dullness of the color palette, caused by the fusion of bright colors with gray tones, and a greater importance of typography, now understood in an expressive way, more as a form than as a means of communication, are other main trends in graphic and web design that will continue throughout 2017.
