INTRODUCTION

OBJECTIVE

The minimum wages will be defined, we will analyze if the minimum wage in Mexico is sufficient to cover basic needs, to which the same law says we are entitled as Mexican citizens.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

When referring to basic needs, we understand as such those necessary to live, these are food, shelter, clothing and education; If we add to this other expenses that are also necessary such as public transport or if there were private transport, the expenses that this would entail (gasoline, repairs, insurance…), household goods, electricity, water, property, telephone, cable, internet, in addition to unforeseen expenses, leisure activities, etc… Speaking of education, our political constitution states in its article 3 ro that education is secular and free up to the upper secondary level, but sometimes public education does not have the desired educational offer, and less at the higher level, in such a way that the only alternative is private schools to be able to continue with a preparation Professional and of course, this generates an additional expense, which for a large part of the society that receives a minimum wage, it is impossible to pay.

For the sector of the population that works in informal jobs, they can forget about an extra expense that, compared to the minimum formal wage earners, will have to pay taxes.

However, a large percentage of those who earn the minimum wage do not have social security, so they have to resort to other medical options and therefore to the payment of consultations and medicines. Taking into account the above information, it could be concluded that the minimum wage in Mexico is not enough to cover the basic needs of those who receive it. So, would the working hours have to be extended to increase the monetary income of the head of the family? We can realize that there is a certain incongruity between what our Law dictates and what really happens around the minimum wage and the needs to be covered by it.

And since lengthening working hours would be against the law, in addition to being counterproductive, both for the employee and for the employer, since the performance would not be the same due to fatigue, apathy would generate little interest to perform their tasks. functions triggering a series of inappropriate behaviors, which is not convenient for any employer.

Personally, I suggest a modification to the minimum wage, which truly guarantees a decent life for families in our country, without deficiencies and with the same opportunities to carry out their daily activities, thus being able to live and not survive in the face of demands of a society, which to date is characterized by its very marked social distinctions.
